Nature reserve Slikken van de Heen
Slikken van de Heen
The Slikken van de Heen nature reserve is a dynamic and multifaceted landscape, where you will discover something new every time. The area consists of former sandbanks, mud flats and salt marshes that are now slowly drying out and desalinating. Due to the alternation of wooded areas and open plains, the area offers a rich variety of flora and fauna. Large grazers such as red goats, wisents and koniks contribute to the variation in the landscape.
There are two beautiful hiking trails that lead you along the most beautiful spots of the area. The tower route (3.7 km) takes you to an impressive observation tower 23 meters high. From the top you have a panoramic view of the area. The observation screen route (2.5 km) leads you past a bird observation screen, where you can quietly enjoy various water birds making their way through a former tidal creek. The Slikken van de Heen is still under development, but already offers a unique experience for nature lovers.
